Namibia, a country full of contrasts in southern Africa. Here everyone will find a dream destination for his safari. The first impression is determined by a feeling of endless space and freedom.

Namibia is surrounded by the neighboring countries of Angola, Botswana, Zambia and South Africa. In the southwest, the Namib Desert is home to the highest dunes in the world. To the west, the country is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. The Namib Desert covers the entire coastal area, the Kalahari Desert is the eastern border.

Although Namibia is very arid, the inland area has a diverse landscape: fertile valleys and tropical rainforest in the north over rugged mountain ranges of central Namibia and flat land in the south.

Namibia is with about 2.4 million inhabitants at twice the size of Germany, one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world. In this endless expanse, a great variety of wildlife can be seen: Namibia is considered the most species-rich country on earth: lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, rhinos can be observed here.

The beauty of the landscape as well as the great abundance of animals, make every trip to Namibia an unforgettable experience.

Namibia is located in the southern hemisphere: when it is winter in Europe, it is summer and rainy season there, during which it is very hot.

Namibia has an average of 300 days of sunshine a year and is a distinctly sunny, dry country. Although you can travel Namibia all year round, the best time to visit is between April and June. The temperatures are around 25 degrees during the day, the sky is always bright blue. At night it cools down pleasantly, so you can sleep well.

The winter months, May to September, are the driest season. The temperatures are sometimes quite cool, especially in the morning. This time is very good for wildlife viewing as the waterholes are well visited. The grass is dry and low.

In October, spring begins, it gets warmer and the days longer.

Between December and March, the amount of precipitation is the highest. Which does not mean that it rains all the time. The rain, if it comes, usually falls in the evening and is often over after a short time. The temperatures are summer high. Many plants are in bloom and even now the animal watchers do not miss out. The coast has pleasant temperatures in the summer and therefore many locals use the coastal resorts as vacation spots.

The main travel season in Namibia is June to September and mid-December to mid-January.

Medical care in Namibia is very good. No vaccinations are required (exception: you are entering from a non-disease-free country). Medical care in urban areas is far above the African average, but in rural areas, basic care is only available in the central towns. In the remote areas of Namibia, there are the bush clinics that specialize in first aid. It is recommended to take out an international health insurance. Doctors can be found in the telephone directory under the keyword “Medical Practioniers”,
Hospitals under “Ministry of Health and Social Services.” The German Embassy in Windhoek knows good medical officers, Tel. (+264) 61-273100, 273133.

In general, Namibia is unproblematic in terms of health. The food in the restaurants is of the same hygiene as ours. You can enjoy salads, ice cream and water in the restaurants without hesitation. All waters in Namibia (except the northern part) are free of schistosomiasis. Cholera and yellow fever are also not to be feared.

Namibia is a safe country to travel to, but many Namibians own only a fraction of what is taken for granted in Europe. Flashy jewelry, carelessly handled purses or overly large camera equipment are therefore a temptation for some. Cities like Windhoek and Swakopmund are roughly comparable to European cities in terms of petty crime. The rule is: do not leave valuables in the car.

We have installed safes in our vehicles for your safety, so you can safely store your valuables.
